Transitions

September marks the transition between summer and fall – but it is also one of the most beautiful months. The still powerful sun casts long shadows in the late afternoon, the leaves change colour, and the air acquires the first briskness of autumn. It's a time of transition.

In this series, I explore both the changing of the seasons and the meaning of change and transitions in general. Enjoy!

The Wheels Keep Turning
The seasons change, and even though the pattern is circular, life always brings us to new places. Remember to enjoy the ride as the wheels keep turning.

Flight of Thoughts
Most people know the feeling of relaxing on the couch, almost falling asleep, while their thoughts are scattering. This transitional state between sleep and awareness is quite fascinating, and I have tried to convey it in this slightly surreal picture featuring two of my favourite motifs—women and black, crow-like birds.

After the Harvest
The road to my house runs through fields that mark the changing of the season. Harvest time is busy, with big machines working around the clock – and then, suddenly, it's all silence, except for the birds picking up what's left. But come spring, the fields will once again be green.

Equinox
In autumn, the night overtakes the day. This global transition that we all share is captured here in the setting of the last summer sun, while the houses beckon with the light and coziness that make late autumn and winter such comforting - or hyggelige - times.

Indian Summer
Even after everything has turned bleak and grey, there is still hope. We might experience a sudden awakening—literally, when the weather unexpectedly warms after a period of rain, wind, and darkness. Or metaphorically, when we suddenly find a new love or passion late in life.

Gold Before Darkness
Autumn carries a melancholy, yet it is also a time of great charm, with golden leaves falling to the ground in the mellow sunlight. A heavy rain may follow, and the world might turn dark for a while, so it is important to value the transition – as well as in all the transitions in life.
